Professional Artist Inspired by Nature

About Me
Artist Statement
Bridget Ryan portrays old houses, farm buildings and the landscapes and seascapes of her native Connemara. The resulting pieces do not conform to the traditional model of landscapes, but come from her own inner perspective of the unique character of those historic structures and the sparse, often desolate atmosphere of the surrounding countryside. Isolation is a central focus of these works, and is used to convey the physical nature of the area and the sadness that surrounds the buildings, often now deserted and crumbling, but with the whispers of our ancestors still abounding inside.
Technique
While mostly using oils, I also use collage and mixed-media in my work. I also use scraping and mopping to show the various and vibrant colours and textures in the Connemara landscape. The light in Connemara is unique and fleeting, and I try to express this in my paintings.
Exhibitions
I have had three solo exhibitions at the Dillon Gallery, Belfast; Streamline Gallery, San Francisco, and Gallery 28, Los Gatos, California. I have also exhibited internationally and in Ireland at group exhibitions. My work is currently showing in the Trinity Gallery in Dublin, and The Cong Gallery, Co Mayo.
